The Punjab Examination Commission (PEC) is an independent body set up by the Punjab government to review and evaluate the academic achievements of students, especially those in grades 5 and 8. The PEC began operations in 2005 and conducted its first 5th-grade population test in 2006. The PEC is now a legal entity in the province operating under the Punjab Examination Commission Act XI of 2010.
Under the Assessment Policy Framework (APF), the new role of PEC is to facilitate and guide the provision of technical assistance to district education authorities in Punjab. AFP 2019 is the first framework of its kind to be presented in the province, under which all assessments will be conducted in a coordinated and meaningful manner in Punjab.
